Dominos 444 Deal verses 555 deal (Part 1 of 2)

The claim is that the new Domino's Pizza deal of 444 is a 'Recession-Buster' deal... lets find out...

The area of a pizza is calculated by 3.14 (pi) * radius squared...

Size of the 10 inch pizza = pi * (5^2) = 78.5398163 square inches

Size of the 12 inch pizza (medium) = pi * (6^2) = 113.097336 square inches.

So there are 34.5575197 square inches less per pizza in the 444 deal.
34.5575197 * 3 = 103.672559 square inches total missing in the 444 deal verses the 555 deal.

If you take the amount missing from the 444 deal and divide by the total square inches in the 555 deal you get the following...
103.672559 / 339.292008 = 0.305555559
0.305555559 * 100% = 30.555555559% less pizza in the 444 deal verses the 555 deal.

$5 * 3 = $15 for the 555 deal.
$4 * 3 = $12 for the 444 deal.

It is $3 cheaper to get the 444 deal... so lets find out what percentage cheaper that is...
3 / 15 = .2
.2 * 100% = It costs 20% less to get the 444 deal...

IT'S A SCAM! You pay 20% less for 30% less pizza! It's a better deal to do the 555 deal! They also have a 777 deal... I have not done the math on that one yet, but be looking for a later post to find out if it's a better deal than the 555 deal.

(See Part 2 of 2 for more information about the 777 deal and overall price per square inch)

Thumbed up on StumbleUpon!

I was watching TV, and the 444 commercial came on. Searched Google to see if anyone had any comments on here, and came upon your blog. Fantastic!!

Well done, excellent article, will read again A++.
You have helped me and a friend settle this dilemna, as we were deciding which deal to go with to satisfy a powerful hunger.

it would have been a lot easier to just figure the price per square inch from a single pizza in each deal and seeing which was higher since multiplying both the number of pizzas by three, and the price by three is just creating extra work.

Yes, but it does add emphisis on the amount of pizza that you dont get. Good job dude!

It's not a "scam". You pay more, you get more. It's the way it works.

I could sell you something that cost 50 cents for $1 and make 50 cents, or I could convince you to buy 3 of them at 80 cents (costing $1.50) and making a profit of 90 cents instead of 50. You move more product faster and still make a profit.
